Join us for an informative session focused on the latest developments impacting the higher education sector. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of key agenda topics, including an Accounting Update that highlights recent changes in FASB guidance, ensuring that institutions remain compliant and informed. We will also discuss the Uniform Guidance Update, offering insights into federal regulations and their implications for financial reporting. Additionally, we will address the critical issue of Cybersecurity, equipping attendees with strategies to protect their institutions from emerging threats. Finally, we will explore Higher Education Hot Topics, providing a platform for discussion on current challenges and opportunities within the sector.

Speakers
Melissa Harman, Partner, Moss Adams
Melissa has practiced public accounting since 1998 and provides professional services to a wide variety of not-for-profit clients, primarily institutions of higher education, associations, and foundations. Along with providing accounting and consulting services, she conducts a wide variety of audits, including federal compliance audits. As a national subject matter expert for the not-for-profit industry, Melissa regularly presents at industry conferences such as the AICPA National NFP Industry Conference, ASAE Annual Meeting, CalSAE Elevate, and the Larger Community Foundations Conference on subjects related to accounting updates, not-for-profit financial statement trends, endowments and split-interest agreements, issues facing private foundations, and the California Transparency in Supply Chain Act.In 2015, Melissa was honored as “Working Mother of the Year” by Working Mother and is a founding member of Forum W, the firm’s initiative to attract, develop, advance, and retain talented women at Moss Adams.In October of 2017, Melissa was listed as one of the “Most Influential Women in Accounting” by the Los Angeles Business Journal.
Lisa Todd, Partner, Moss Adams
Lisa is a Partner in the Higher Education Industry group. She has practiced public accounting for over 25 years. Lisa audits a variety of organizations—from higher educational institutions and their affiliates, large international public charities to small local and affiliate charities, educational loan service organizations, and foundations. Lisa assists her clients by advising them on how to appropriately address their unique accounting needs. To remain current on the auditing and accounting complexities her clients face, Lisa attends national conferences and webinars hosted by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), IRS, Department of Labor, and a variety of industry trade groups such as SACUBO, WACUBO and NACUBO. She provides clients with consulting engagements, including operational effectiveness, the timely completion of audits, and communication regarding accounting. Lisa has been awarded a 2008 40 Under Forty Award from New Mexico Business Weekly, was selected as a 2012 Working Mother of the Year in Working Mother magazine, and was named a Woman of Influence by Albuquerque Business First in 2016.

Sunday Session 5B: GASB Update

Join us for an informative session, where we will share insights on what governmental higher education should be thinking about as we approach 2025 year-ends. We’ll discuss the logistics of the adoption of GASB 101, learn about the evaluation of risk disclosures in GASB 102, and chat about future pronouncements that are on the horizon.

Speakers
Wil Crawford, Partner, Forvis
Wil has more than 18 years of experience providing audit and accounting services to telecommunications, governmental, nonprofit, and higher education clients. He also serves as the nonprofit, education, and public sector office industry leader for Forvis Mazars’ Jackson, Mississippi office.Wil has served as the in-charge, manager, and engagement executive for Single Audits under OMB Circulars for various hospitals, colleges and universities, governmental, and nonprofit agencies. Within Forvis Mazars, he has assisted with audit staff training and creating advanced virtual Single Audit compliance training.
Wil is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA). He was awarded the Silas M. Simmons Bronze Medal for the 2007 CPA Exam. He also has served as president of the MSCPA Young CPAs, chair of the MSCPA Governmental A&A Committee, millennial chair of the MSCPA Long Range Planning Committee, an MSCPA board member, and was the 2015 winner of the MSCPA Rising Star Award. He is a member of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) and previously served as a reviewer for the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program.
Wil is a frequent continuing education speaker at both the local and regional level. He has previously taught higher education specific topics for SACUBO, AACUBO, and Forvis Mazars.He previously served as treasurer on the board of directors of the Central Mississippi Chapter of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association and currently serves as chair of the administrative council at Madison Methodist Church and on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area.
