Matthew Smith, Nuveen, Managing Director of Private Placements Investing
Matthew is a Managing Director in Nuveen’s private placement group. In this role, he has structured and executed over $8.1 billion in private placement debt transactions, with a focus on project finance and infrastructure. He also underwrote private equity transactions for Nuveen. Prior to joining the firm, Matthew was a senior associate at a distressed credit and private equity firm, and a senior equity research analyst at a multi-strategy investment fund, where he was responsible for equity investments in utility, power, and alternative energy companies. Matthew also worked at Franklin Templeton Investments, where he served as a co-portfolio manager, and a research analyst responsible for over $12 billion in direct equity investments. His business and investment views have been quoted in BusinessWeek, USA Today, MSN Money, Investment Dealers’ Digest and Bloomberg News. Matthew graduated with a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce and an M.B.A., with honors, from the University of Chicago’s Booth School Of Business. He holds the CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA North Carolina Society.
Alexander Hancock, Nuveen, Vice President Clean Energy Finance
As Vice President of Clean Energy Finance at Nuveen Green Capital, Alex’s primary focus is structuring and delivering innovative financial solutions to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in the built environment. Prior to joining Nuveen Green Capital, Alex worked for 14 years in Nuveen Real Estate where over his tenure he served as a portfolio manager, acquisitions officer, and asset manager. As Portfolio Manager and investment advisor for TIAA’s General Account, Alex oversaw a $10.2bn diversified domestic equity portfolio of office, multifamily, industrial, retail, and alternative property types. Prior to entering the real estate industry, Alex was a Management Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he delivered advisory services to Fortune 500 clients to improve their business performance. Alex holds a BA in Russian Studies from Duke University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. He currently serves as a Board Member for the Southeast Florida/Caribbean chapter of the Urban Land Institute.
Daniel Allen, Senior VIce President of Capital Markets
Daniel Allen is the Senior Vice President of Capital Markets for Bernhard. He is responsible for supporting the company’s development team in the structuring and funding of long-term energy partnerships ranging from 15 to 50 years. He utilizes his industry knowledge to lead financing activities in support of Bernhard’s rapidly-growing energy infrastructure program. Daniel has 15 years of industry experience with Raymond James Public Finance and Structured Finance groups. Throughout his career, Daniel served borrowers across the United States in industries including healthcare, higher education, and utilities. He holds a Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Memphis.
